The Aita Agirre cultural center in Elgoibar was adorned on Thursday afternoon for a special event to celebrate the Basque-language discussion groups. This program was established 25 years ago by the Municipal Basque Department, the association Elgoibarko Izarra, and the town's two language schools, playing a significant role in the Basque-language acquisition of many residents.
The event aimed to both "highlight the program's contribution to promoting Basque in Elgoibar and to thank the participants for their efforts." Approximately 70 Elgoibartarras attended the commemoration of the 'Tertuliak' program's 25th anniversary, representing those who have participated in the initiative in various ways over the past quarter-century.
The celebration commenced with the screening of a video detailing the project and featuring some testimonials.
Following this, two participants spoke about their experiences with the program, and two others shared their stories through bertsos (traditional Basque improvised singing).
Subsequently, representatives from the program's promoting entities presented small gifts to the participants as a token of appreciation for their work. The event concluded with singing and a small reception.
