The association Elgoibarko Baso Biziak has released the data from its planting campaign for the 2025-2026 season, during which it planted 2,436 native trees. With this figure, the association has now planted a total of 9,259 native trees in the municipality's lands since it began its activities five years ago.
In the first season (2022-23), the group planted 1,895 specimens; in the 2023-24 season, the number rose to 2,697; in 2024-25, it introduced 2,231 native trees, and in this past winter's campaign, another 2,436.
Elgoibarko Baso Biziak has purchased two new plots located on a slope of the Muskiritzu ridge. According to the association, these are "two adjoining plots, of 2.4 and 0.9 hectares, where pines and larches were recently cut." Therefore, these plots offer the opportunity for new plantings to continue the project of generating a large forest with different native species in Muskiritzu.
With the newly acquired land, Elgoibarko Baso Biziak currently manages 59 hectares of land; 15.2 hectares are owned by the association, and the remaining 43.74 hectares are managed through agreements reached with a dozen landowners.
