With this new measure, residents of Elgoibar will have a total of five locations to collect free compostable bags, which are essential for the correct separation of organic waste. The new points are located at the Citizen Attention Service (HAZ), the OMIC office, and the reception of the Olaizaga sports center.
These new locations complement the two existing points, which were already operational outside the Olaizaga sports center and in the King-Kong building. The council aims to provide greater convenience to residents in managing their organic waste, ensuring they always have the necessary materials for proper recycling.
The service is completely free and aims to eliminate any barrier that hinders recycling. This measure aligns with the Municipal Strategic Plan, which includes 'Commitment to a better world' as one of its pillars, and reaffirms the City Council's adherence to the Debabarrena Commonwealth's roadmap towards more sustainable waste management.
Furthermore, this initiative addresses the need to resolve issues arising from occasional malfunctions of vending machines, offering citizens alternative ways to stock up on bags. Staff from HAZ, OMIC, and the Olaizaga sports center will also provide direct assistance to disseminate information about the measure and improve organic waste collection rates.
Our goal is not to demand more from citizens, but to offer them more and better tools to make recycling increasingly simple, as well as to attend to the tasks of collecting and recycling organic waste. With these three new points, we reinforce our commitment to the Strategic Plan and the environment, ensuring a quality service that does not depend on mechanical failures and that brings us all closer to the goal of a better world.
