The Eibarko Mendiak Bizirik platform has positively assessed its appearance before the Sustainability Commission of the Gipuzkoa General Assemblies, where it presented arguments against the Basalgo wind farm, emphasizing the project's negative impacts.

During the two-hour appearance, the platform had the opportunity to convey its point of view to political representatives and engage in an exchange of opinions. Eibarko Mendiak Bizirik introduced the platform and reviewed the work carried out since its establishment in November, including informational and awareness-raising initiatives, demonstrations, and campaigns to collect allegations. In total, they have received 6,280 endorsements for their technical and popular objection campaigns.
Subsequently, the attendees analyzed the project presented by Arena Power, pointing out errors and omissions. They highlighted the impact that the installation of six large wind turbines and the associated civil engineering work would have on social, landscape, cultural, and heritage aspects, as well as on the biodiversity of the affected area. They also mentioned the rejection the project has generated in the Debabarrena and Debagoiena regions, evidenced by the opposition of the five affected municipalities (Eibar, Bergara, Soraluze, Elgeta, and Elgoibar), as well as numerous individuals and associations.
During their intervention, the Eibarko Mendiak Bizirik platform proposed measures to preserve the area against initiatives such as the Basalgo wind farm. They suggested providing regulatory support for the Necrophagous Birds Plan, as is the case in Araba and Bizkaia, and developing and approving a specific plan for the protection of chiropterans (bats). They also defended the need to guarantee the water cycle for the communities around Basalgo, which has more than eighty identified water points, as well as protecting agricultural and forest land and reforestation and land stewardship projects.
Furthermore, they proposed initiating the process for declaring the defensive infrastructures of the Civil War in Basalgo, Topinburu, and Ilordo as Heritage Assets, extendable to Intxorta and Kalamua. They also requested the position of the General Assemblies to dismiss the project, respecting current regulations, due to its impacts.
In this context, the representative of Elkarrekin Podemos, Miren Etxebeste, announced the presentation of a resolution proposal for debate in the June plenary session, focusing on both the Basalgo project and the energy transition model. This initiative also has the support of the PSE-EE representative, Alberto Albistegi. Both participated, along with representatives from EH Bildu, PNV, and PP, in the subsequent question and answer session, where they thanked the explanations and showed interest in various aspects of the project and the objections raised by citizens and institutions.
