The Eibar City Council will distribute winter flowers to residents on Wednesday, May 13th, at the Unzaga square stands, before replacing them with summer plants, promoting sustainability and a circular economy.

With the change of season, Eibar's gardens are preparing for a fresh look. Plants that have endured the winter will be replaced by others better suited to the spring climate and summer heat.
This process will involve the removal of approximately 800 plants of various species from the flowerbeds throughout the town. Among them are carnations, violas, pansies, daisies, and poppies, among others.
These specimens are in good condition and suitable for replanting in balconies and private homes, having completed their useful life in public spaces. This initiative gives them a second chance.

"This initiative, which began to be implemented in 2023, has transformed urban landscape management. What was once considered waste is now understood as a citizen resource. With this activity, we address a direct request from the people of Eibar, facilitating that these plants continue to brighten the homes of the city and giving continuity to the commitment to a circular economy in which even ornamentation plays its part, giving a second chance to flowers that still have life ahead."

This distribution coincides with the urban flora replacement campaign, which began in early May and will continue until the end of the month. During these weeks, the gardening service will work in Eibar's neighborhoods to introduce species more resistant to heat and adapted to the summer climate, ensuring that the city's green spaces look their best in the coming months.
