The Eibar City Council has initiated a new round of the 'Umeak Eskolara' and 'Dirulaguntzak Ikasleei' aid programs for the 2026 school year. This initiative, running for over 25 years, aims to support families in Eibar and stimulate local consumption.
This year, the maximum aid amount has been raised from 60.10 euros to 70 euros per beneficiary student. The funds can be used for purchases of clothing, footwear, school supplies, glasses, contact lenses, or sports equipment from businesses located in Eibar.
The programs are backed by a municipal budget of 305,579.30 euros, with 215,639.40 euros allocated to 'Umeak Eskolara' and 89,939.40 euros to 'Dirulaguntzak Ikasleei'. The goal is to alleviate the financial burden of starting the school year and to support the local economy.
Mayor Jon Iraola stated, "The Eibar City Council reaffirms its commitment to families and local commerce." He highlighted the increased aid, now up to 70 euros, "an contribution that can make a significant difference".
Vanesa Hortas, the Councilor for Economic Development, emphasized the dual benefit: "We ease the financial strain on families while simultaneously promoting consumption in our local establishments."
The 'Umeak Eskolara' program is for children born between 2011 and 2024, registered in Eibar from January 1 to May 31, 2026. 'Dirulaguntzak Ikasleei' targets students born between 2001 and 2010 pursuing regulated studies, master's degrees, or adult education, meeting the same residency requirements.
Applications will be accepted from September 14 to October 16, 2026. Purchases made between September 1 and October 16 are eligible. Documentation must be submitted at the office located in Errebal Plazia.
The office hours are: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Mayor Iraola also stressed the initiative's impact on local businesses: "We are contributing to ensuring that this spending benefits our own city, keeping our commercial fabric alive."
Applicants must provide the completed application form, proof of enrollment (for 'Dirulaguntzak Ikasleei'), itemized invoices, and bank account ownership details.
