The mountain section of the Eibar Sports Club, in collaboration with Morkaiko Elgoibar, has prepared a two-day excursion to the Pyrenees for June 13th and 14th. The trek will lead participants from Gabardito to Selva de Oza, with an overnight stay at the Arlet refuge. This initiative takes hikers to one of the most renowned areas of the western Pyrenees, combining physical exertion, high mountain landscapes, and the experience of a refuge trek.
The first day, scheduled for Saturday the 13th, will connect Gabardito and the Arlet refuge over a 16-kilometer route. This stage will feature a positive elevation gain of 1,450 meters and an accumulated descent of 860 meters, characterized by continuous ascents and a typically Pyrenean profile, leading the group to the French refuge for the night.
The second day, on Sunday, will start from the refuge itself and head towards Selva de Oza after ascending Punta Cristián, located at an altitude of 2,078 meters. Although the ascent will be more moderate, with 350 positive meters, the day will include a significant accumulated descent of 1,200 meters over its 18 kilometers.
The organizers remind participants that the route will be a traverse, meaning each person must carry all necessary gear for an overnight stay and two days of mountain hiking in their backpack. The price includes bus transportation, dinner, accommodation, and breakfast at the refuge, while meals and breakfast on the first day are the responsibility of each participant.
Furthermore, it will be mandatory to be federated and have coverage for the French Pyrenees. Carrying crampons for safe passage and a sleeping bag liner for the refuge will also be essential.
Registration will open on Tuesday, May 26th, at 6:00 PM, simultaneously at both clubs. The cost will be 150 euros for federated members and 170 euros for non-federated members, with a 50 euro deposit required upon registration.
