Prior to the start of the festivities, on the afternoon of May 13, a documentary focusing on brave cattle ranches will be screened. The work, titled Suharra, explores a traditional way of life in Basque farmhouses reflected in the breeding of cattle for the sokamuturras common in village festivals. The documentary also addresses future threats due to restrictions on the use of animals in festive shows. The screening will take place at Kultur Elkartea at 7:00 PM, and admission will be free.
The weekend's festive agenda will kick off on May 15 with the traditional paella competition. Students from 4th grade Primary Education to 2nd grade ESO will have the opportunity to showcase their culinary skills at noon in the courtyard of the Luzaro school, on Itziar bidea. Afterwards, music will take center stage with the kalejira by Kalean Kantuz at 7:30 PM and a concert by the Deba Music Band in the cloister of the Santa María la Real church at 10:00 PM.
On Saturday, May 16, the day will begin with the children's painting competition, organized in collaboration with Haitz-Haundi. In the morning, a bertso-pelota festival will be held at the Aldats fronton at 12:00 PM, followed by a parade enlivened by the pipers of Deba and Azkoitia and the local Banda Gaztea from 1:00 PM. In the afternoon, prizes for the drawing competition will be awarded at Kultur Elkartea at 5:00 PM. At 5:30 PM, there will be a bull run with carts and a sokatira competition in the Alameda. The big-headed figures will parade through the streets at 6:00 PM, and at 7:00 PM, the Music Band will lead a kalejira. In the evening, Farola Sound System will perform in Plaza Zaharra between 9:00 PM and 10:30 PM, and at 11:00 PM, there will be an opportunity to dance to the music of Aittu in the Plaza de los Fueros.
Sunday, May 17, will be the main day of these festivities, Debarren Eguna. The reveille by the pipers of Lizarra at 8:00 AM will announce the start of the sokamuturra at 8:30 AM. At 11:00 AM, the Ezpata-dantza will take place at the San Roke hermitage, and afterwards, local associations will offer broth and chorizo in the Plaza de los Fueros. At 11:45 AM, the gathering of giant parades from Lizarra, Olite, Legazpi, and Deba will begin. At 1:00 PM, Gure Kai Dantza Taldea will perform the aurresku in the Plaza de los Fueros, and at 6:00 PM, the giants will once again be the protagonists in the parade that will take place in Plaza Zaharra. The end of the festivities will come with the romería by Heuk Esan in the Plaza de los Fueros at 7:00 PM.
