These works will focus on the AP-8, AP-636, AP-1 motorways and the GI-20 road, carried out in two phases. In 2026, 21 kilometers will be improved across 13 different sections. The second phase, in 2027, will complete the project with the rehabilitation of the remaining 25 kilometers, reaching the planned total of 46 kilometers.
This year, on the AP-8 towards Bilbao, 3.2 kilometers will be improved between the towns of Mendaro, Elgoibar, and Eibar. Towards Behobia, 2.4 kilometers near Elgoibar and 4.3 kilometers near Deba will be repaired. On the AP-636, towards Bergara, 1.5 kilometers will be rehabilitated between Ormaiztegi and Ezkio-Itsaso, and another 925 meters in Bergara. Towards Beasain, a 1.6-kilometer section in Zumarraga will be addressed.
On the AP-1, three sections towards Eibar will be renewed: 2.8 kilometers in Arrasate, and two sections of 1.9 kilometers and 1 kilometer in Bergara. Additionally, on the GI-20, the 800-meter section between Errenteria and Pasaia will be repaired in both directions. The remaining 25 kilometers will be rehabilitated in 2027.
Furthermore, the Gipuzkoa General Assemblies urged the Spanish central government yesterday to ensure that the modernization and safety improvement works for tunnels on the Gipuzkoan road network are 100% financed by European funds, mirroring the funding model for state roads.
