A delegation from the Basque Government visits the Zubeltzu Cinema in Deba to promote its transformation into a modern and accessible cultural facility.
Deba received a visit this Friday from a representation of the Basque Government, headed by the First Vice-Lehendakari and Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Ibone Bengoetxea, and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Andoni Iturbe. The objective of this meeting was to strengthen the collaborative relationship to carry out the project of transforming the old Zubeltzu cinema into a modern and accessible cultural facility for the town.
During the visit, the regional representatives were able to see firsthand the condition of the building, tour its facilities, and analyze the next steps of the project together with the mayor of the town, Alazne Txurruka, and municipal representatives.
According to the Deba City Council, the meeting between municipal and regional officials has allowed for a deeper planning of a project that combines the rehabilitation of the building with the creation of a modern, dynamic, and versatile space, aligned with the municipality's cultural objectives.
The Zubeltzu Cinema project represents a strategic step to strengthen culture in Deba. Beyond the building's rehabilitation, it aims to create an inclusive environment, foster citizen participation, and enhance local creativity.
In this regard, municipal officials emphasize that the collaboration with the Basque Government allows for the articulation of resources, experiences, and strategies, ensuring that the cinema becomes a space for learning, cohesion, and cultural enjoyment.

"The institutional meeting has given us the opportunity to show Vice-Lehendakari Bengoetxea and Deputy Minister Iturbe the potential of the Zubeltzu cinema as a new, renovated cultural space. For the government team, it is fundamental that this project recovers its activity and becomes a dynamic, participatory, and accessible space, offering quality cultural experiences for all citizens."

"The Basque Government considers it strategic for Deba to have a new stage to promote performing arts and culture in general in the Debabarrena region. In this regard, it recalls that the Zubeltzu cinema project has received aid of 1,062,000 euros within the framework of the Berpiztu program. In its opinion, the project to convert the old facilities of the Zubeltzu cinema into a modern cultural facility is 'a firm commitment by both the City Council and the Basque Government to bring culture closer to citizens'."
