The Altzolan Tren Geltokia Bai platform, established to advocate for the continuation of the train station in Elgoibar's Altzola neighborhood, has described the appearance before the Mobility Commission of the Basque Parliament on April 14 as “disappointing”.

Members of the platform stated that their dissatisfaction largely stems from the position taken by the PNV and PSE-EE, whom they accuse of arriving at the meeting with a predefined script, “characterized by a lack of humanity regarding residents' demands and no commitment to sustainable mobility”.
They emphasized that they traveled to the Basque Parliament hoping to find answers to many of their questions, but “the reality is that they did not answer a single one”. Representatives from the PNV reiterated their search for an alternative transport solution for Altzola residents in collaboration with the Elgoibar City Council, as they had done two years prior. However, the platform responded that their sole interest is to maintain the train service.

We are no more than other users of the line and we do not want to create differences among neighbors. We only want to maintain the service we have, which has been operating for over 100 years. We are not asking for a swimming pool, a theater, or an airport… We want to keep what we have, without forgetting that, at the time, they not only promised to maintain it but to improve it.

The platform also criticized the PSE-EE, which, in addition to pointing out the station's low usage as one of its problems, used the same arguments from 12 years ago, “with the peculiarity that this time they forgot about the station”. Members of Altzolan Tren Geltokia Bai indicated that this stance contradicted that defended by other members of their own party, but these comments seemed to have no impact on the socialist representative.
Conversely, representatives from EH Bildu and the PP showed a favorable stance towards the station and joined the request of Debabarrena residents. At the end of the commission, they registered the 5,568 signatures collected in favor of the station.
Members of Altzolan Tren Geltokia Bai returned disheartened after their visit to the Basque Parliament, particularly due to the PSE-EE's position. “Previously, the PSE-EE defended the station, but now, by aligning with the PNV, everyone has united in favor of its suppression. It is clear that there is nothing to be done with these leaders,” they added.
Nevertheless, they have announced that they will not give up. The Altzolan Tren Geltokia Bai platform is considering presenting a non-legislative motion in the Plenary of the Basque Parliament for all parties to state their position and vote, and they do not rule out resorting to legal action to prevent the station's disappearance.
