The ‘Eibarko Industrien Ekosarea’ program has concluded its 2026 edition, involving 11 industrial companies from Eibar and carrying out a total of 33 actions. This initiative, promoted by the Eibar City Council through its departments of Economic Development, Employment and Innovation, and Environment, aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the local industrial sector by incorporating sustainability criteria and implementing environmental and energy improvement measures.
ONDOAN, a Basque business group specializing in Facilities Engineering, Maintenance, Energy, and Environment, provided technical consultancy for the program, offering expert advice to participating companies to identify improvement opportunities and move towards more efficient and sustainable production models.
“
"Industry is part of Eibar's identity and remains a fundamental pillar of our economy and employment. We must support our companies through the changes they are facing, helping them adapt to new energy and environmental challenges without losing competitiveness. From the City Council, we want to be close to our industrial fabric, offering tools and resources that enable progress towards a more modern, efficient, and future-ready industry."
Throughout this edition, the actions focused on key areas of industrial companies' energy-environmental management, including compliance with environmental legislation, carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency improvement, and identification of green investment opportunities. These areas address both regulatory compliance needs and the detection of measures to reduce consumption, emissions, and costs, as well as leveraging available financing and incentive possibilities.
“
"The results of this second edition demonstrate that there is interest and commitment from our companies towards improving their production processes. The 33 actions developed across 11 companies have identified concrete opportunities to reduce consumption, enhance energy efficiency, and advance in environmental regulatory compliance. We want Eibarko Industrien Ekosarea to also be a space for knowledge, identifying new opportunities, and facilitating our companies' integration of sustainability into their daily operations."
In addition to technical advice, the program offered tools and activities aimed at facilitating access to information and promoting awareness within the industrial sector regarding sustainability. Through the website www.eibarkoindustrienekosarea.eus, news about the actions taken has been published, showcasing the work done and the improvement initiatives driven by the participating companies. Several webinars were also organized to share information and knowledge on topics related to business sustainability and energy-environmental management, fostering learning and experience exchange among companies.
To conclude this edition, a summary video and an informative brochure have been produced, detailing the program's main content and results. Both materials are available to all interested individuals and organizations on the websites of ‘Eibarko Industrien Ekosarea’ and the City Council.
With the conclusion of this edition, the Eibar City Council reaffirms its commitment to supporting the municipality's industrial sector in the challenges associated with energy and environmental transition. Initiatives like ‘Eibarko Industrien Ekosarea’ help bring specialized advice to companies, facilitating the identification of improvement opportunities and promoting more efficient, responsible industrial activity prepared for new regulatory and market demands.
The business participation and the development of the carried-out actions reflect the scope of an initiative that seeks to integrate sustainability into business management and make it a competitive lever for Eibar's industry. Therefore, the local City Council expresses its gratitude for the involvement and collaboration of the participating companies, whose willingness to analyze their processes and explore new improvement opportunities has been fundamental to the development of this edition. Their commitment to sustainability helps drive a more efficient, responsible, and competitive local industry, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public administration and the business sector to advance towards a more sustainable production model.
