Worker Dies in Explosion at Vibrantz Factory in Laudio

A 49-year-old employee died in an early morning explosion, and production will be halted for two days.

A 49-year-old worker has died in an explosion that occurred in one of the furnaces at the Vibrantz factory in Laudio (Araba) at 00:30 AM.

As reported by the Basque Government's Security Department, the incident took place at the Vibrantz facility in Laudio. The deceased employee, aged 49, was a local resident.
Firefighters and technicians from Osalan were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident and verify compliance with safety measures. The factory manufactures and markets inorganic pigments for paints.
In response to the incident, it has been decided to halt production at the Vibrantz plant for two days. The Workers' Committee is currently meeting to discuss potential mobilizations.

This would be the 33rd worker to die from a work accident in the Basque Country this year.

According to figures compiled by the LAB union, 32 workers have already died in work accidents in the Basque Country this year; this would be the 33rd fatality. The ELA union, meanwhile, has recorded 20 work-related deaths to date, which would rise to 21 including this incident.
In the Aiaraldea region, more than 18 workers have lost their lives at their workplaces over the past decade. The most recent case occurred a year ago at the Tubos Reunidos plant in Amurrio, following a fall from height.
