49-year-old hiker rescued in Okondo after fall on Mount Galarraga

The Ertzaintza's mountain rescue team evacuated the injured person by helicopter to Cruces hospital.

Emergency Services rescued and assisted a 49-year-old hiker on Saturday morning following a fall on Mount Galarraga, in Okondo.

The incident occurred on a trail of Mount Galarraga, within the municipality of Okondo. The helicopter of the Ertzaintza (Basque Police), accompanied by members of the Mountain Section of the Surveillance and Rescue Unit (U.V.R.), rescued the victim, who was then evacuated to Cruces hospital.
Around half past two in the afternoon, the Sos Deiak 112 Emergency Coordination Service received an alert about an accident involving a hiker walking on a path in the Ganekogorta mountain range.
As a result of the fall, the hiker, a 49-year-old Spanish national, experienced severe pain that made it impossible for him to walk or continue his route.
A Technician from the Directorate of Emergency and Meteorology Attention of the Basque Government mobilized a helicopter and the mountain section of the Ertzaintza's Surveillance and Rescue Unit, who traveled to the location to assist the victim.
Finally, the Ertzaintza helicopter, with personnel from the Mountain Section of the Surveillance and Rescue Unit (U.V.R.), carried out the rescue and landed at the football field in Sodupe. There, the hiker was attended by an ambulance and subsequently transported to the hospital.
