As the summer solstice approaches, Amurrio's feminist group Otsemeak is gearing up for its akelarre, a dance and protest event scheduled for June 26th.

With the summer solstice drawing near, numerous festivals and celebrations are set to arrive in the region. One of the most significant annual events is the akelarre hosted by the feminist group Otsemeak of Amurrio. The group's members will gather on the 26th at 10:30 PM to present a dance performance around a bonfire.
Using the occasion of San Juan's Eve, the group also utilizes the performance as a platform for protest. "Our objective, taking advantage of San Juan's Eve, is to denounce the various injustices that women have suffered since ancient times," they explained to Aiaraldea Komunikabidea. They prepare the performance voluntarily, with the aim of enjoyment.
Prior to the event, they hold numerous meetings and rehearsals. They wish to invite all the young women in the town to participate, as they have stated that any contribution or idea will be welcome. Rehearsals began last Saturday, the 6th.
