The Areta neighborhood in Laudio celebrates its identity today with Aretako Eguna, a day full of cultural and gastronomic activities, while Artomaña in Amurrio moves up its patron saint's festivities, San Jorge, to this weekend.

The Areta neighborhood in Laudio will showcase its strong sense of belonging and identity today, Saturday, with the celebration of Aretako Eguna. This festive day, organized by the residents themselves, will combine cultural, gastronomic, and participatory activities throughout. The neighborhood has its own school and parish, where they worship Santa Ana instead of the local patron, San Roque, even dedicating their July festivities to her.
Among the events, a popular consultation in favor of independence will be held from 10:30 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 17:30. The most symbolic moment of the day will arrive around one in the afternoon with the raising of the neighborhood flag and a collective popular photograph. The day will also feature its Buruhandi eta Trimakoak, photographic exhibitions, kalejiras, dances, workshops, a barbecue, games, swing, and a romería with Gauargi and Dj Topaketa, making this event a key date for the community.
Meanwhile, the administrative board of Artomaña in Amurrio is also immersed in celebrations, which began yesterday, Friday. Although the feast day of their patron, San Jorge, is next Thursday, they have chosen to move the celebration to this weekend to avoid coinciding with the start of San Prudencio.
The program includes the solidarity roast of a calf, whose preparation began last night and will be served from 14:00 today, Saturday. Attendees can collaborate with the AEFAT association, which researches ataxia telangiectasia (AT), a rare, neurodegenerative disease with no cure or treatment, affecting a child in this small town, by purchasing a pintxo.
In the afternoon, at 17:00, the competition between the towns of the Arrastaria Valley will take place, an event that in recent years has been a great boost for the host village's festivities, including San Cristóbal de Tertanga, San Pedro de Delika, San Juan Degollado de Aloria, or San Jorge de Artomaña. The party will continue until late hours with zumba, a concert with Eriz&Totum Revolutum, and Dj Varro. Sunday's agenda includes children's inflatables (11:00 and 16:00), an exhibition of Basque dances with the Erauntsi de Orduña group (13:30), and a chocolate party and brisca championship (17:30). The San Jorge celebrations in Artomaña will culminate on the patron saint's day (Thursday, April 23) with a mass in his honor at one in the afternoon, followed by a lunch enlivened with trikitixa in the village tavern.
