A resident of Amurrio has contacted Aiaraldea Komunikabidea to report an issue concerning the summer swimming pools. The neighbor explained that single-parent families are unable to obtain the family-oriented season ticket, even though guidelines from the Basque Government recommend it.
Specifically, the Department of Welfare, Youth, and Demographic Challenge of the Basque Government issued a decree on December 2nd of last year establishing the framework for single-parent families. It specifies that single-parent families require special protection due to being “particularly vulnerable.” The text states that this type of family faces a higher risk of poverty, experiences the greatest difficulties in balancing family and work, and is most frequently marginalized in society.
The Amurrio resident submitted a formal request to the Amurrio City Council three years ago but claims to have not yet received an official response, which is why they decided to make the issue public.
Aiaraldea Komunikabidea contacted the Amurrio City Council to inquire about the matter. The local institution responded that the issue “will be studied in the next review of municipal fees related to sports facilities.”
The local entity explained that it is working to consolidate the services of the municipal pools and sports center into a “single management contract.” Through this process, fees and season ticket options can be “reviewed and updated” to “adapt them to the current social reality and ensure they respond more appropriately to existing family models.”
Consequently, the City Council has assured that it will consider the reality of single-parent families during “the process of reviewing the rates and conditions for accessing sports facilities.” The local entity noted that it “appreciates” such contributions, as they “help improve public services and adapt them to the real needs of the municipality.”
