The Department of Basque Language of the Bermeo City Council, in collaboration with local euskaltegis (Basque language schools) and the Official Language School, has relaunched this initiative. Councilor for Basque Language, Iker Bilbao San Nicolas, emphasized that it serves as a space to cultivate lively and expressive Basque outside the classroom. Meanwhile, facilitator Marimar Hernandez recalled that the sole objective is to converse comfortably and at ease in Basque.
Weekly sessions are already underway. Participants will gather once a week for an hour at La Lamera: on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 13:30 and from 18:30 to 19:30, and on Fridays from 17:00 to 18:00.
Additionally, groups will be formed based on hobbies. These include hiking excursions; the first will take place on November 7th, meeting at 09:30 at Taraska for the Bermeo-San Kristobal-Bermeo route. Furthermore, activities such as easy dances and the Gurasolagun program (parents' friends) will be launched in November. Family outings, like the visit to the Tertanga house in Amurrio, and prize competitions scheduled for November, February, and May-June, will also be featured.
Participation is completely free. Those who register will be eligible for various discounts and prizes. The Mayor of Bermeo, Nadia Nemeh Shomaly, has invited all citizens to take part, stating that "all that is needed is the desire to speak Basque."
