The Mundaka Town Council has reported that the tender for the municipality's new cleaning and waste collection service has been left unawarded, as no companies submitted bids.

This contract, considered «essential» for the municipality, has remained unassigned, forcing the Council to change the procedure. The necessity of implementing this public service was the main point of agreement that allowed the approval of this year's budget plan, thanks to a pact between the local government team, led by EH Bildu, and the opposition municipal group of the PNV.
With a base budget of just over 466,000 euros annually, one of its main novelties has been the seasonal reinforcement programmed to respond to the large tourist influx experienced by the municipality during both Easter and the summer season.
From now on, after the new service comes into effect, the aim is to provide coverage 365 days a year and reinforce staff on days deemed necessary. The coastal administration has also planned to supply new containers, although companies will need to present specific location plans.
Likewise, the collection and transport of residual, organic, and paper and cardboard fractions will be covered. The income derived from the sale of these waste materials will go to the municipal coffers.

"It will be done through a negotiated procedure without publicity, that is, by invitation, which does not modify any aspect of the service."

To ensure its implementation, the Council decided, during the last plenary session, to change the procedure for awarding the contract.
