Desafío de Guerreros Kicks Off in Gernika-Lumo for its Tenth Anniversary

Nearly 2,000 runners will gather on April 19 in the Biscayan municipality for the OCR World Championship qualifying event.

Gernika-Lumo will be transformed into a scene of mud, obstacles, and shared effort on April 19, marking the start of the special tenth-anniversary season of the Desafío de Guerreros race, bringing together nearly 2,000 runners.

The Desafío de Guerreros race is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a special season kicking off in Gernika-Lumo on April 19. This event will gather close to 2,000 runners, turning the municipality into a vast outdoor circuit. The race is a qualifying event for the OCR World Championship, blending intense competition with a strong sense of camaraderie.
From 9:00 AM until approximately 4:00 PM, the Biscayan town will host participants of various skill levels, coming from both Euskadi and other parts of Spain, including Andalusia, Valencia, and Barcelona. The course will offer two distances, 6 and 10 kilometers, and will wind through some of Gernika-Lumo's most iconic locations.
Along the route, runners will face over twenty obstacles, such as Jungle, Goliat 2.0, or Zombie attack. These challenges are designed to test strength, endurance, and dexterity, as well as the participants' ability to collaborate. In the elite category, only six athletes—three female and three male warriors—will reach the podium.
The trophy ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Santa Ana parking lot, with municipal officials in attendance. The Gernika-Lumo race will be the first stop on an annual calendar that continues in Barcelona on May 24, Valencia on June 21, Madrid on September 27, and Málaga on October 27. Registration remains open until the day of the event via the organization's website.
