Organized by the Enkarterrialde Rural Development Association, and in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption of the Basque Government and the Department of Transport, Mobility and Tourism of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, BideBerdeate aims to highlight the Iron Mountains Green Route as a tourist resource for the Enkarterri and Meatzaldea regions.
The event combines outdoor sports activities with the dissemination of mining history and the promotion of the area's cultural, gastronomic, and natural resources. The Iron Mountains Green Route, spanning 39 kilometers between Artzentales and Muskiz, forms the central axis of a proposal connecting landscape, industrial memory, and active tourism.
“"BideBerdeate represents a way to discover Euskadi from up close, traveling through our landscapes and learning about the history and identity of our towns. Initiatives like this allow us to turn our natural and industrial heritage into an opportunity to promote sustainable tourism and foster local economic activity."
Sonia Pérez, Deputy for Transport, Mobility and Tourism of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, stated that "we have collaborated with this initiative with a social media campaign about the Iron Mountains Green Route, which has allowed us to promote a resource that connects nature, mining heritage, towns, and the coast, showcasing Bizkaia from different perspectives. But, in addition to making our territory known, we wanted to incorporate accessibility as an essential part of the tourist experience, with Alicia, a blind person who tested Blind Explorer on the ground, participating among the campaign's influencers. It is a concrete way to advance our accessibility strategy and connect tourism promotion with our mobility policy, working so that more and more people can discover, travel, and enjoy Bizkaia in the best possible conditions."
Maitena Urbaneta, deputy mayor of the Muskiz City Council, declared it is “a pride for the municipality to host this event and its presentation”, while confirming that the Iron Mountains Green Route has become “the first inclusive route in Bizkaia for visually impaired people. This is a permanent technological legacy for our territory”.
The 2026 edition incorporates a significant component of innovation and accessibility. The project includes the incorporation of Blind Explorer, an assisted navigation tool designed for visually impaired people. Through GPS technology, 3D sounds, and audio descriptions, the application facilitates orientation and movement in natural environments.
The event will take place on November 8th in Pobeña, Muskiz, with various proposals to enjoy the Green Route and its surroundings. The announced program includes hiking routes of different distances, designed for various participation levels, as well as activities linked to the region's nature and heritage.
With this third edition, BideBerdeate continues to consolidate itself as a tourism promotion initiative that connects sport, culture, and gastronomy, while contributing to raising the profile of the attractions of Enkarterri and Meatzaldea.
The event thus reinforces the role of green routes as resources for active and sustainable tourism, capable of preserving the territory's industrial memory and generating new local development opportunities. This is the third year it has been held, with the novelty that the meeting point for this edition will be Pobeña, in Muskiz.
There will be three types of routes, and throughout the morning there will be activities for all audiences, such as an agri-food product market, putxera preparation, or the theatricalization of mining history by the Hilario Cruz Elkartea neighborhood association. Registrations have already reached 1,000 people.
