The Bizkaia Provincial Library has launched a conference series dedicated to the noir genre, titled 'Udaberri Beltza'. This initiative aims to explore the connections between cinema and literature within this genre, addressing various aspects. The sessions will be held from May 5 to 26, every Tuesday, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, in the library's Press Room.
The cycle will commence on May 5 with a lecture by María Eugenia Salaverri, titled El género negro llevado al cine: de Estados Unidos a Euskadi (The Noir Genre in Cinema: From the United States to Euskadi). This will be followed on May 12 by Haizea López's presentation on Heriotza eta hilketa eleberri beltzan (Death and Murder in Noir Fiction). On May 19, Xandra Bilbao will deliver a talk on Mujeres que matan: la creación de asesinas fuera de estereotipos (Women Who Kill: Creating Female Assassins Beyond Stereotypes), and the series will conclude on May 26 with Txemi Parra's lecture, El rural noir. O cómo el entorno geográfico influye en la novela negra (Rural Noir. Or How the Geographical Environment Influences Noir Fiction).
The lectures will be offered in Spanish and Euskera, and will be presented by Alex Oviedo. Admission is free until full capacity is reached, with no prior reservation required. Additionally, all sessions can be followed live via streaming through the website of the Bizkaia Provincial Council.
