The night between this past Saturday and Sunday was very hot in Bizkaia. Specifically, up to seven points in the Biscayan historical territory registered minimum temperatures that did not drop below twenty degrees during the early morning hours.
Throughout Saturday, the Basque Government's Security Department maintained a yellow alert active for extreme high temperatures between 13:00 and 20:00.
According to information gathered from the meteorological stations of the Basque Meteorology Agency, Euskalmet, the heat was concentrated in various areas of Bizkaia, with minimum temperatures exceeding twenty degrees in municipalities such as Orozko (22.9 degrees), Oiz (22.3), Bermeo (22), Balmaseda (22), Orduña (20.9), Getxo (20.5), and Bilbao (20.2).
This heat also had health consequences. Throughout Saturday, June 13th, Osakidetza's Emergency Service attended a total of 33 people due to the high temperatures. Fifteen of them were treated in Bizkaia, compared to 16 in Gipuzkoa and 2 in Araba. The cases attended involved individuals between 2 and 96 years old. Five of them were treated on-site and discharged, while another 28 people were transported by ambulance to a hospital or health center.
