Suffocating heat continues to grip Bizkaia, with Euskalmet issuing an orange alert for Wednesday and Thursday due to persistent high temperatures. In the coastal and interior Cantabrian areas, thermometers are expected to exceed 33 degrees Celsius for maximums and will not drop below 17, although temperatures above 20 degrees at night are not ruled out.
On Tuesday, when most of the territory was already experiencing temperatures above 30 degrees, the alerts issued by Euskalmet suggest the heatwave is far from over. Today, Tuesday, high temperatures and the risk of fires have been highlighted, particularly in the Cantabrian region.
The situation is expected to be similar on Thursday. In urban areas, the sensation of heat will increase due to the effect of asphalt, cement, and scarce vegetation. The predominance of southerly winds will also contribute, making the mugginess difficult to bear during the central hours of the day. This dryness also exacerbates the risk of forest fires, prompting the Basque Government to activate a yellow alert.
It won't be until Friday that the weather begins to cool down, albeit by only a few degrees. By then, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts maximums of 29 degrees and minimums of 18 in Bilbao, a trend that, in principle, is expected to continue over the weekend.
