This Wednesday, April 8, according to Euskalmet's forecasts, the sky will feature extensive clear spells, though mid-level and high clouds will persist. The southerly wind will weaken and shift to a northerly component in the afternoon, leading to a drop in temperatures on the Cantabrian slope.
Conversely, on the Mediterranean slope, maximum temperatures will rise, with no significant changes in minimums, fostering a spring-like atmosphere. In the main cities, minimums of 15ºC and maximums of 23ºC are expected in Bayonne, Bilbao, and San Sebastián. For Vitoria-Gasteiz and Pamplona, minimums will be 10ºC and maximums 24ºC.
Along the coast, a southeast wind will blow during the first part of the day, changing to northeast in the afternoon and westerly component at night, causing choppy or slight seas. The northwest swell will generate waves of approximately 2 meters. High tides will occur at 08:55 and 21:19, and low tides at 02:54 and 15:09. Water temperature is 13ºC, and visibility will exceed ten kilometers.
Furthermore, Euskalmet has reported that March was a wet month across the entire territory, becoming very wet in the west and normal in the east. Average temperatures were mild, with a positive anomaly of +0.6 degrees compared to the normal period of 1991-2020. The Department of Security of the Basque Government confirmed that, regarding precipitation, March showed a distinctly wet pattern, especially on the Cantabrian slope, where significant accumulations were recorded in the northern valleys.
Notable figures include 241.4 mm in Berastegi, 240 mm in Eskas, and values exceeding 200 mm in several stations. In Álava, however, values were more modest, often below 60 mm (Alegría 59.8 mm, Nanclares 57.75 mm, and Paganos 55.9 mm). Additionally, stations like Sangroniz and Matxitxako recorded their highest historical values for March.
The number of rainy days was higher than usual in the west and interior, with increases of between 30% and 50%, particularly in the Llanada Alavesa. Rains were concentrated mainly between March 5 and 15 and in the last week, with very significant accumulations on four days, especially on the 6th and 14th. The episode of March 6 and 7 was particularly important, with persistent and very abundant precipitation on the Cantabrian slope, causing accumulations of up to 83 mm in Almike, 79.2 mm in Altzola, 72.1 mm in Aizarnazabal, and 71.5 mm in Urduliz. These rains increased the flow of several rivers, some of which reached yellow and even orange levels in the Butrón and Gobela basins.
