The competition continues to receive support from the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and BBK. The winning group of the main category and the best Barakaldo-based band will get to record, produce, and master a record at Gaua Producciones studios. Winners of the BBK-Berdintasun and Euskara awards will record a four-song EP.
In the final, nine finalists will perform live on September 26th at San Bizente Park in Barakaldo. A professional jury will decide, live, the best artist performing in Basque.
The winning projects from the competition's four categories will perform at the Hiriko Soinuak festival, held in Barakaldo's Town Hall Square on October 23rd and 24th, alongside established bands. Both the final and the festival will be free of charge.
Last year, 39 projects from Barakaldo registered, representing 27% of all participants, a 30% increase compared to 2024. The representation of Basque-language artists and candidates for the BBK-Berdintasun award also grew. Overall participation has steadily increased since the first edition in 2019.
Separately, Euskotren, a public company under the Basque Government's Department of Sustainable Mobility, will implement its summer schedule on all its railway lines (E1, E2, E3, E4, and E5) and metro line (L3) starting Monday, June 22nd. It will also modify the schedule for the Bilbao tram, which will run every 15 minutes in both directions.
Euskotren announced that it will adapt its services to meet summer demands, reinforcing regular train services to facilitate travel to coastal towns with beaches. Service frequency will increase in Debabarrena to ease access to Deba beach, and on weekends and holidays, services to Urdaibai (Bilbao-Bermeo service), Kosta (Donostia-Zumaia), and Topo (Irun/Amara and Altza/Amara) will also be strengthened.
