Once again, the Azpeitia Town Council and Kulturaz Kooperatiba have jointly organized creation grants to support the development of cultural projects. Awarded since 2017, this year the grants are, for the first time, named the Xabier Aranbarri Creation Grants, in honor of the former manager of Kulturaz.
Out of the ten projects submitted to the call, seven have been selected. In total, the council has distributed 20,000 euros among the artists. The grants have been divided into two modalities: 12,000 euros for the cultural creation modality and 8,000 euros for the cultural creation residency modality, with two grants of 4,000 euros each in the latter.
In the first modality, the projects receiving support are: 'Fake' (by Iñaki Andres, Olatz Aguado, and Edurne Nuñez), 'Poema liburu ilustratua' (by Irati Gallastegi and Izei Gallastegi), 'Hau ez da pareta bat' (by Ane Odriozola and Irati Oskoz), 'Etxe bat basoan...' (by Aiora Urbieta), and 'Hitzaldia' (by Joanes Karrera). In the second modality, the residency grants have been awarded to the projects '(Min)tzaira' (by Nahia Sillero) and 'Festa bukatzean' (by Itziar Manero and Libe Estebaranz).
The grant recipients will receive support and advice at the Dinamoa creative space, as well as the opportunity to use its facilities and resources. Once the projects are developed, they will have the chance to present them to the public.
The 'Fake' project will explore the boundaries between truth and falsehood concerning social media. 'Poema liburu ilustratua' will be a book of poems written from a youthful perspective, with illustrations. 'Hau ez da pareta bat' proposes street art interventions, and 'Etxe bat basoan...' will pay homage to the knowledge of ancestral medicinal herbs and sustainable art made with natural pigments. Meanwhile, 'Hitzaldia' will delve into loss, death, and vulnerability, employing a contemporary language of Basque mythology.
In the residency modality, the performance '(Min)tzaira' will combine scenic poetry and sound composition, focusing on the Basque language. The project 'Festa bukatzean' will reflect on the New Basque Song of the 1960s and 1970s, blending documentary theatre, sound collage, and electronic music.
