This project will add nearly 22,000 square meters to the existing facilities, including new innovation units, experimentation centers, and collaborative spaces. The goal is to act as a lever for developing a proprietary connected car industry.
The initiative is already underway, and the tender process will begin in the last quarter of this year. Forecasts suggest that construction could start during the first quarter of 2027, with a minimum duration of two years. Thus, the new facilities are expected to open their doors in early 2029, adjacent to the building launched in 2009.
“"When the automotive sector in Europe is cutting back, our response is to be more competitive and innovative."
This expansion demonstrates that Bizkaia does not shrink when the environment becomes complicated; instead, it invests and builds to strengthen its commitment to industry, its people, and its future. Automotive is no longer explained solely by the vehicle but is evolving towards a broader system: mobility.
According to industry sources, this expansion will allow for the opening of a space where the next generation of solutions in automotive and mobility will be promoted, connecting industry, technology, and talent. Distrito AIC will be the convergence point for innovation, experimentation, and the future.
