The Court of Appeals of Bizkaia has upheld the acquittal of the manager of a hospitality establishment in Barakaldo, who was accused of broadcasting a Champions League match without authorization.
The incident dates back to February 13, 2024, when agents of the National Police entered a bar in the town and found that a Champions League match between RB Leipzig and Real Madrid was being broadcast live, allegedly without the necessary license.
According to the judicial resolution, it was not proven that the establishment's owner was aware of the broadcast or directly involved in the investigated events. Furthermore, the court also deemed unproven other broadcasts denounced by LaLiga from earlier dates.
The Professional Football League argued in its appeal that the business owner should be held responsible for what happened on the premises, even if she did not personally participate in the broadcast. However, the Court recalls that the law prevents overturning an acquittal based solely on a different assessment of the evidence without a full retrial with all procedural guarantees.
The sentence dismisses the appeal filed and is final, with no further recourse possible.
