The Itzulia 2026 cycling race will cause traffic disruptions in the Artxanda area of Bilbao on Monday, April 6, approximately between 12:00 and 18:00, due to its first stage.

The first stage of the Itzulia 2026 cycling race, a 13.9-kilometer individual time trial starting and finishing in Bilbao, will impact traffic around Artxanda on Monday, April 6. The stage is scheduled to begin around 14:30 and conclude by 17:40, with traffic cuts implemented from 12:00 to 18:00.
This stage, coinciding with the Easter holiday return operation, will lead to significant changes in vehicular traffic, pedestrian mobility, and parking in the Bizkaia capital. The Basque Government is coordinating the security and support operation for the cycling event, involving over 300 agents from the Ertzaintza and local police forces from affected municipalities.
Specifically, this Monday in Bilbao, one lane of the Ibarsusi/Santo Domingo road, closest to Camino Monte Avril, will be closed to traffic. This closure will affect the section between the access to Santa Marina Hospital and the BI-3732 (Camino Monte Avril). Consequently, access between number 4 of Camino Monte Avril (Sacred Heart Institution) and number 55 (El León Restaurant) must be made via the BI-3732, entering from the Galdakao area. Santa Marina Hospital will only be accessible from the Ibarsusi-Santo Domingo road.
Additionally, the Santo Domingo/Artxanda and Artxanda/Enekuri (BI-3741) roads will be closed, preventing vehicle access to and from properties located on these routes. Access to the Artxanda Sports Center-Funicular area and to numbers 16, 38, and 40 of Camino San Roke will be regulated by traffic wardens via the Artxanda-Santo Domingo road, near number 27 (funicular).
Garages and parking areas along the cycling circuit will be inaccessible during this period, prompting the City Council to recommend avoiding the use of private vehicles. Furthermore, from 8:00 to 19:00, Zumalacárregui Avenue will be closed in both directions, between Ernesto Erkoreka and Músico Guridi. Zabalbide Street will also be closed between Txomin Garat Avenue and the Ibarsusi-Santo Domingo road, from 12:00 to 18:00.
Regarding the remaining stages of the Itzulia, Tuesday, April 7, will see the second stage pass through the Foral Community of Navarre. On Wednesday, April 8, the stage will cover 152.8 kilometers, starting and finishing in Basauri. Thursday, April 9, features the Galdakao-Galdakao stage, totaling 167.2 kilometers, and on Friday, April 10, the stage will start and finish in Eibar, covering 176.2 kilometers. The final stage on Saturday, April 11, will depart from Goizper-Antzuola and conclude in Bergara, spanning 135.4 kilometers.
