The Open Government and Citizen Attention area of the Irun City Council reports that the 18th edition of the Serapio Múgica Grant was awarded last September to Juanma Sarasola Murgia. His project, titled "Ikusten duzu goizean… Irungo baserrien historia. Erdi Arotik gaur egun arte" (Do you see in the morning… History of Irun's farmhouses. From the Middle Ages to the present day), will focus on the history of farmhouses and bordas, as well as mills and ironworks located in Irun from the Middle Ages to the present.
To complete this research, the author will collect oral testimonies from farmers, in addition to gathering old and current images to illustrate the final work. Once submitted, it will be published to continue the "Irun has History" collection.
The Serapio Múgica Grant is named after the renowned Gipuzkoan historian and archivist Serapio Múgica. Awarded biennially, its main objectives are to promote studies on local history and disseminate Irun's documentary and heritage collection to better publicize the city's past.
This grant, with a endowment of 10,000 euros, is one of the best-remunerated of its kind in Spain. It is open to original and unpublished research projects that contribute to the historical knowledge of the Irun community.
