Irun will wrap up its San Pedro and San Marcial festivities on July 1st, after celebrating the Baserritar Eguna. The Urdanibia square served as the morning's focal point, a significant event celebrating Basque culture and livestock.
This year, however, the event was less crowded due to the dermatosis nodular outbreak, which prevented the traditional cattle competition as animals from different farms cannot gather. Symbolically, a small area was set aside to display a few animals, including cows, ponies, chickens, goats, and donkeys, to keep the tradition alive.
The animals were the main attraction for children, accompanied by their families during the holidays. The sunny morning provided a pleasant atmosphere to recover energy after the city's main festival day.
The event offered more than just animals. Bertsolaris Sustrai Colina, Onintza Enbeita, Anjel Mari Penagarikano, and Jexux Mari Irazu delivered performances with messages supporting small farmers and ranchers, eliciting smiles from the audience with their banter.
Following the bertsolaris, a demonstration of 'herri kirolak' (traditional Basque sports) took place near the stage, generating excitement as attendees enjoyed 'talos', 'txistorra' (chorizo) skewers, and cheeses.
In the evening, the Ensanche Square will host stand-up comedy acts by Mikel Bermejo and Patricia Galván starting at 8:30 PM. Afterwards, the fanfarre Los Perolas will lead a street parade to Ficoba, where the "Fiestas del mundo" show will feature 300 drones illuminating Irun's sky.
The month-long festivities will conclude with these events, and the fanfarre will parade through the city streets, bringing a cheerful end to the San Pedro and San Marcial celebrations.
