The City Council of Irun, through its delegate for Works, Gorka Álvarez, has initiated the planting of 34,000 flowers and 12,630 bulbs in the city's green areas.

The winter seasonal flower planting campaign has commenced in Irun with the distribution of over 34,000 plants and 12,630 bulbs across various city locations. The flowers were cultivated at the municipal nursery in Meaka, and the planting efforts will last for approximately one month.
Gorka Álvarez, delegate for Works, Maintenance, and Infrastructures, explained that "behind the winter flower planting [...] there are many months of prior work at the municipal nursery. It is work that begins long before the flowers reach our streets, squares, and gardens, requiring planning, dedication, and the daily effort of the professionals responsible for caring for and preparing each plant."
The most used species in this campaign is the viola (11,241 units), followed by Myosotis (23%), Papaver (11.5%), prímulas (10.7%), and Cyclamen (6%). The predominant colors this autumn-winter season are yellow (25%) and white (25%), with blue (20%) following.
In Luis Mariano, 4,175 units of assorted seasonal flowers will be planted, and approximately 2,960 red and white plants will be used in Plaza San Juan. Around 1,060 units, combining white, red, and blue colors, will be planted on Lope de Irigoien street.
The planting work will extend for about a month and will cover areas such as the roundabout on Iparralde avenue and the Letxumborro roundabout, subject to weather conditions.
The special employment center Gureak Berdea is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the city's parks and green areas, cultivating all the seasonal flowers. In spring, the planted flowers will be distributed to citizens for reuse.
The city's current maintained area exceeds one million square meters, classified into different maintenance levels: A intensive (29,208.92 m2), B high (410,113.17 m2), C moderate (140,119.45 m2), D sporadic (214,926.88 m2), and Q forests and natural areas (132,392.45 m2).
