The City Council of Irun has requested that the Basque Government's Traffic Department and the Ertzaintza monitor city access points, specifically rural roads coming from Oiartzun, to manage the high volume of traffic during the return operation.

Local authorities have warned that GPS navigation systems are directing many vehicles through rural paths, causing them to enter the city center where they cannot be easily redirected to main interurban roads.
The affected routes include paths such as San Marcial, Peñas, and Arkale, which typically have very low traffic but are currently experiencing significant congestion. Once vehicles enter the city through these routes, they must be allowed to circulate.
Given the expected increase in traffic, the council has called for exceptional measures, such as lifting tolls and advancing control operations, following recent traffic congestion in Irun, Oiartzun, and Hondarribia.
