The Irun City Council has approved the contracting of works to improve accessibility in the upper area of Errotazar, in the Ventas neighborhood. This measure will guarantee safe and direct access to upper portals 11, 13, and 15, as well as the adjacent square, responding to a long-standing resident demand.
The project addresses existing accessibility limitations due to the steep terrain slope. Although itineraries connect the street to the upper portals, they are long and inconvenient, prompting the council to support this intervention to streamline and simplify pedestrian movement.

Specifically, the project outlines the installation of an elevator and a 9.50-meter-long walkway that will directly connect to the upper square, resolving the existing height difference. The elevator, with double boarding and a capacity for 13 people (1000 kg), will be located next to the pedestrian sidewalk of Errotazar Kalea, overcoming a height of 7.50 meters.
The work also includes an accessible ramp towards the adjacent fronton, which currently only has stair access, hindering universal accessibility. The planned intervention will overcome the 80-centimeter height difference between the existing sidewalk and the sports platform via a ramp, thus completing the system comprehensively.
The execution cost of the works amounts to 530,000 euros, with an estimated execution period of five months. This intervention is funded by a credit modification approved last May and responds to a request made during a "The Mayor in the Neighborhoods" session.
