Last Monday, May 11th, the emblematic Bar Cid in Irun reopened its doors. Located on Aureliano López de Becerra street, in front of the "topo" train tracks, this historic establishment, which has been open since 1959, is embarking on a new chapter with "a change of image, but maintaining its essence", comments one of the two managers.
Karina Lisbeth Herrera, a resident of Nicaraguan origin who has lived in the neighborhood for nine years, has taken over the establishment after the previous owners offered it to her. The transfer was so smooth that the former owner, despite joking about being "semi-retired," continues to visit the bar daily to "help out, lend a hand, and assist me, because he is a wonderful person," Karina highlights gratefully.
The main novelty of this reopening is the inclusion of Latin American food on its menu, although the traditional menu will also be maintained for regular clientele, those who have been coming for decades "to meet, play parchis, or cards." Therefore, traditional pintxos, tripe, croquettes, and combo plates will continue to be available.
To these classics, a Latin American food offering is now added, featuring "Nicaraguan tacos, shredded chicken, fried green plantains with cheese, and roasted pork, among other items." To accompany these, the establishment also offers imported drinks, such as the Nicaraguan beer Toña.
With a team of three people working, Bar Cid will continue to add years. A historic venue that will combine new flavors with tradition and the same familiar faces, from customers to staff.
