The director of Emakunde, Miren Elgarresta, and the general secretary, Noemí Ostolaza, will attend the Hondarribia Alarde on Tuesday, September 8th, to show their support for the Jaizkibel company and the initiative promoting equal participation for women. This year marks 30 years since a group of women first claimed their right to participate equally in this festival.
Elgarresta has emphasized the importance of nurturing dialogue spaces among the parties involved to consolidate progress towards equality. She has thus promoted moving towards a celebration free from exclusion and in compliance with the Law for Equality between Women and Men.
"We cannot forget that we are talking about a matter of rights and equality, and the ultimate goal must be for women to enjoy the festival under the same conditions as men, without any kind of exclusion," Elgarresta recalled. She also stressed that dialogue is an indispensable element for the Alarde's evolution to proceed with guarantees, avoiding division and fostering cohesion among the citizens of Hondarribia.
The director of Emakunde expressed confidence that new generations, with their vision of a more egalitarian future, will help the festival evolve towards equality and respect for women's rights. Therefore, she pointed out that "it is necessary to give space to new generations" to enable social transformation towards real equality. She also indicated that Emakunde will always be ready to collaborate in this endeavor.
