The municipal group EAJ-PNV has called on Hondarribia's local government to implement an accessible exhibition hall, highlighting the accessibility challenges at Maddalen Arte Gunea for individuals with reduced mobility.

The municipal group EAJ-PNV has expressed concern over the selection of Maddalen Arte Gunea as a venue for art exhibitions. The group clarified its support for local artists and creators, and views cultural initiatives that foster local creation as positive. However, they regret the decision to locate the exhibition space in Maddalen, as it fails to meet basic accessibility criteria.

Access to culture must be guaranteed for all citizens. In this case, the chosen space presents significant limitations, as it is located in an area with stairs, which hinders or prevents access for people with reduced mobility.

The jeltzale group recalled that more than a year ago, initial criticisms were raised regarding this decision. At that time, it was stated that it was a provisional solution. However, the current reality shows otherwise: the space has a stable program and a defined annual plan, indicating a decision that has become consolidated over time without addressing the obvious problem of lack of accessibility.
For EAJ-PNV, the situation is further aggravated by the fact that Hondarribia has other spaces that do meet accessibility conditions. Therefore, they consider it necessary to rethink the location of such initiatives. They also pointed out that, if opting to rent a space, it is essential that it complies with basic conditions such as accessibility. Consequently, they believe that the choice made by the city's government team has not been appropriate, as it does not guarantee universal access.
For all these reasons, they urge the municipal government to reconsider this decision and work towards establishing an exhibition hall that is truly accessible, open, and designed for all citizens.
