A 47-year-old man was arrested in Irun early on Tuesday morning for a public health offense after fleeing from the Ertzaintza and crashing his vehicle.

During a night patrol in Lezo, Ertzaintza officers noticed a vehicle driving without lights and erratically. When they signaled for the driver to stop, he failed to comply, reportedly aware that he was carrying a large quantity of marijuana.
Shortly after the pursuit began, the 47-year-old Spanish national crashed his car into a tree in the Ventas neighborhood of Irun. The driver was unharmed. Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered ten kilograms of marijuana buds in the trunk, packaged in plastic bags.
In addition to the arrest for a crime against public health, the man faces administrative sanctions for driving under the influence of narcotics, driving at night without lights, and failing to obey police instructions. He will be brought before a judge in the coming hours.
