Assailant Arrested in Irun for Stabbing Incident

Irun Municipal Police and Ertzaintza have apprehended a 24-year-old man for injuring another man with a knife in the city center yesterday.

The Irun Municipal Police, in collaboration with the Ertzaintza, have arrested a 24-year-old man for seriously injuring a 26-year-old man with a knife during an altercation yesterday afternoon on Paseo de Colón.

A fight between two individuals in downtown Irun caused surprise and commotion yesterday afternoon, April 9, 2026. The incident occurred in front of a hospitality establishment on Paseo de Colón. An Irun Local Police patrol, which was in the vicinity, was alerted to the altercation and arrived at the scene during the ongoing struggle between the two involved parties.
According to the Ertzaintza, officers approaching the scene witnessed one individual “stabbing the other in the leg multiple times with a knife.” Immediately, local police intervened and managed to separate them. Reinforcements and medical personnel were then requested to attend to the injured man.
Following the alert, several patrols from the Local Police and Ertzaintza, along with an ambulance, arrived at the location. The victim, a 26-year-old Spanish national, was transported to Donostia Hospital, where he remains hospitalized. The assailant, a 24-year-old Spanish national with a police record, was arrested at the scene for a serious assault with a bladed weapon.
Subsequently, the Ertzaintza took charge of the investigation and the preparation of the corresponding police report. The arrested individual will be brought before a judge once the pertinent proceedings are finalized.
