The ARTgia art space reopens its doors in Irun, in the Judimendi neighborhood, with the new exhibition Basoan, where artists Larraitz Ugartemendia and Josette Dacosta engage in an intergenerational dialogue.

After a hiatus since 2020, the ARTgia gallery has resumed its exhibition activity with a new show focusing on painting. Additionally, artist Alba Tojo has moved her creative workshop to this space, co-working with Irantzu Lekue.
The curators of this new phase at ARTgia, Alba Tojo and Irantzu Lekue, present an intense dialogue between artists Larraitz Ugartemendia (Irun, 1983) and Josette Dacosta (Bordeaux, 1944). The exhibition opens this Friday, the 29th, at 7:00 PM.
Eight works form the Basoan project, where the two painters converse through brushstrokes and vibrant colors in a creative "symbiosis," according to Ugartemendia. "We are inspired by nature, and what we feel when painting in the forest is the same, even if each transmits it in their own way," the artist points out. While most works are individual, the largest one, spread across five large canvases, was painted by both. "We enjoyed it immensely, which is the most important thing," admits Dacosta.
The connection between Ugartemendia and Lekue began to form several years ago. After collaborating on various initiatives, thanks to Antxeta Irratia and artists selected by Ugartemendia in a series of interviews, in 2025 they formed a group of eight women who promoted the traveling exhibition Lupa, which moved through Iparralde. Through these interactions, Ugartemendia met Dacosta, and soon both felt a strong "connection" between their personalities and work. Since then, they have developed a series of creative experiences that have culminated in Basoan, which can be visited at ARTgia until June 27th.
The gallery will be open on Saturdays in the afternoon (from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM) and on Sundays (from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM). Visits can also be requested via email at artgiada@gmail.com.
The fourth fundamental piece of this exhibition is Tojo, originally from Murgia, who after working on numerous previous projects with Lekue, has moved her creative printing workshop to ARTgia to open the space to new horizons.
