The Irun City Council has presented the new phase of the Kalean Bai Plan for the next four years. Its main objective is to consolidate and multiply the presence of Euskera in children's and youth's extracurricular, leisure, and sports activities, ensuring continuity for the learning efforts made in educational centers.
Josu Iguiñiz, the Euskera delegate, along with Siadeco, responsible for driving the project, recalled the longevity of this initiative launched in 2022. Currently, 64 Irun associations have signed agreements to reinforce and promote the language. The roadmap outlines three key priorities: deepening the work with these 64 entities through tailored mini-plans, attracting additional associations to join the project, and promoting the natural use of Euskera in free time, from a gender perspective.
The four-year plan will place special emphasis on sports and local festivities. Follow-up work will be conducted with 15 school sports clubs. Additionally, linguistic protocols will be established with 27 associations that organize events for young people during the San Pedro and San Marcial festivals.
“"Irun is also Euskaldun, we also speak in Euskera, and we will continue working to ensure Euskera reaches the place it deserves."
This new phase is conceived as a "collective city project." As Iguiñiz highlighted, the goal is to establish an environment where young people can fully play, compete, and socialize in Euskera.
