Bilbao's Kirikiño Ikastola will host the I Euskara Mila Koloretan Painting Contest as part of Ibilaldia 2026, on the last weekend of May, aiming to reflect the festive spirit of the Basque language through creativity.

This initiative, designed for both adults and children, will take place on the same weekend as Ibilaldia: May 30th will be for children and young people, and May 31st, the day of Ibilaldia, will be for adults.
According to information from Kirikiño Ikastola, the new proposal's objective is clear: to reflect the festive atmosphere in favor of the Basque language, Basque culture, and community life through creativity, and to make art an active part of the festival. The initiative seeks to strengthen Ibilaldia as a creative and participatory space for all ages.
The adult painting contest will be held on May 31st. Participants will paint within the Ibilaldia grounds, creating works on the spot that capture the festival's atmosphere, landscapes, and experiences. The contest will be individual, with each participant allowed to submit one work. A maximum of 100 people can participate. Registration will take place on the day itself, with pre-registration also open until May 10th. The event will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and works must be submitted within this period. Afterwards, a three-member jury will evaluate the works, and the decision will be announced at 6:00 PM.
Additionally, in this first edition, a separate contest for children and young people will be organized on May 30th, the eve of Ibilaldia. In this category, participants will create their paintings on pre-provided sheets, each at their own pace and with their preferred technique. The sheets will be distributed during the week of May 18th. Once completed, the works must be submitted to Kirikiño Ikastola on May 30th between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. After the jury's evaluation, the awards ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM. All submitted works, whether awarded or not, will be exhibited at the ikastola, both on that day and on the day of Ibilaldia, giving the initiative a collective and exhibition dimension.

"The Euskara Mila Koloretan initiative takes Ibilaldia to another level, transforming it into a meeting point that combines culture, creativity, and participation. This year's edition will offer the opportunity to experience Ibilaldia from personal and collective perspectives, with color, in Basque, and with art."
