A fire in an apartment in Lemoa (Bizkaia) has led to the discovery of a marijuana plantation, resulting in the arrest of a 51-year-old man by the Ertzaintza for a crime against public health.

The Ertzaintza has uncovered a marijuana plantation in an apartment in the Azurreka neighborhood of Lemoa (Bizkaia) following a fire. The Department of Security reported the arrest of a 51-year-old man of Latin American nationality after locating plants up to a meter high in his home.
The discovery occurred when firefighters and Ertzaintza agents responded to an alert about a fire. As the resident was not present, they had to force entry to extinguish the flames.
After the fire was put out, to confirm there were no further hotspots and everything was in order, the patrol inspected the apartment's interior and found the marijuana plantation, spread across several rooms. Shortly after, the resident was notified and arrived at the scene, admitting ownership of the plants, which led to his arrest for a crime against public health.
The arrested individual was taken to police facilities. Subsequently, on Wednesday, April 16, with the relevant judicial authorization, the autonomous police returned to the residence to conduct a search. They counted 255 marijuana plants, distributed in four rooms, and also found four packages of buds.
