As is tradition, the Estíbaliz Sanctuary, a Romanesque gem in the Basque Country, was bustling with activity on May 1st. Thousands of visitors came to pay homage to the Virgin of Estíbaliz, patron saint of Álava. The pleasant morning temperatures and lack of rain encouraged a large turnout, with people arriving on foot, by bicycle, car, or via shuttle services from Vitoria.

This family-friendly day offered attractions for all ages. The aroma of txoripan, a traditional snack for such festivities, filled the air. Attendees expressed their delight with the splendid morning, despite forecasts of rain later in the day.

Near the sanctuary, the XXXI Open-Air Rapid Painting Contest took place, where artists captured the beauty of the surroundings. Additionally, the seventh edition of the Feria de los Desagravios was held, an event that has revitalized the Estíbaliz festivities since its revival by Medieval Álava. From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, local producers and artisans offered their zero-kilometer products, including honey, chorizos, and cheeses.

The peak attendance was recorded between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, when the path from the parking lot to the sanctuary was crowded with people. Following tradition, many arrived at Estíbaliz via the greenway of the Basque-Navarre Railway, both by bike and on foot. A kalejira with music and the colorful stalls added to the festive atmosphere.

Children also had their dedicated area, with face painting services available from 10:00 AM and a wooden games workshop starting at 10:30 AM. Registrations for the children's category of the painting contest opened at 11:30 AM, and an inflatable sweeper was available in the play area from 12:00 PM.

One of the morning's most anticipated events was the XXXI Culinary Contest featuring Álava potatoes, a nod to the region's gastronomic identity. Simultaneously, the C.S.E. Fencing Club offered an exhibition, and musical entertainment contributed to a gala atmosphere throughout the morning.
