Actress Susana Abaitua and comedian Juan Dávila star in El último mono, a comedy exploring social media, seduction, and the clash of egos.

Alava-born actress Susana Abaitua returns to the big screen this summer with a new comedy promising a gender war, social media, and a significant clash of egos. The film is titled El último mono and will be released in cinemas on August 7.
Directed by Joaquín Mazón and starring Abaitua alongside comedian Juan Dávila, the film pits two diametrically opposed characters against each other online: one, a seduction guru with thousands of followers and a supposedly foolproof method; the other, a feminist comedian who has spent years ridiculing precisely men like him.
The premise quickly escalates. Alejandro accepts the challenge to win over Mariela, his main rival on social media, in just three days. It seems the weekend will be anything but quiet.
The film precisely plays with this clash between discourses, masculinities, feminism, and viral culture. The trailer itself offers some provocative lines. “Men, especially heterosexual men, are an endangered species,” declares the protagonist. At another point, the character played by Juan Dávila asks what the most powerful male weapon is, and a bystander replies: “The penis?”. The retort is swift: “No, the brain”.
With its provocative and mischievous tone, El último mono is presented as a comedy closely tied to current debates and internet language. It carries the mark of a Spanish production with participation from RTVE, Movistar Plus+, and À Punt.
For Susana Abaitua, this represents another step in her continuously growing career. The Alava actress arrives at one of the most visible moments of her career, following her Goya nomination for Un fantasma en la batalla. In recent years, she has starred in a string of film and streaming projects, including Patria, Los Farad, Eres tú, and Valle de Sombras.
Now, she returns with a comedy that blends rivalry, seduction, and social media. And where, at least from what the preview suggests, no one emerges unscathed.
