Upon receiving the Álava Medal, the doctor expressed his wish for San Prudencio to inspire future medical generations. He views this award as an incentive to continue progressing and admitted it was a “very pleasant surprise” to receive it, especially as a recognition “from all the people of Álava.”
“"This award is an incentive for us to continue prospering. It is very emotional to receive this, from the hands of all the people of Álava."
He dedicated this recognition to the professionals he has worked with throughout his career, his family, and the patients who have trusted in his expertise. He highlighted that the recovery of each patient makes this work special, and frustration arises when a cure is not achieved, as a patient is more than just a clinical case; they are a person with a problem.
The recognition ceremony took place at the Artium museum in Gasteiz, where the doctor's career and contributions to Álava were emphasized. The organization used the metaphor of a beehive to describe his career, which pivots on six key pillars: research, innovation, dissemination, collaboration, projection, and family. This trajectory was summarized as “science with conscience.”
The head of the Provincial Council reiterated that the Álava Medal is the highest distinction granted by the territory and reflects the values that the people of Álava desire for the future. He stressed that the doctor's career “reminds us that innovation is not an abstract concept, that we need people like him in Álava because they position the territory internationally and generate quality employment.”
