In the competition organized by the Barakaldo City Council (Bizkaia), Uxue Morgado, 19 years old, has emerged victorious to announce the 2026 Carmen festival. Her proposal received the highest number of votes, accumulating 35.53 points in the voting process held on the City Council's Facebook profile, cultural centers, and the Festival Commission.
The winning poster features the letters spelling 'KARMENAK', integrating into each one representative elements of Barakaldo's festivals, such as concerts, the fire bull, fireworks, parades, and the Ansioko fairgrounds. The design aims to reflect the diversity and richness of the festival program, as reported by the City Council.
“"I drew it all myself on my mobile, layer by layer, using a design app."
Morgado explained that she created the entire design manually on her mobile phone, using a design application, without any artificial intelligence assistance. After considering several ideas, she opted for the winning proposal because she felt it was "different from others she had seen." Furthermore, she wanted to show that Barakaldo's festivals are "much more than Jolin and Deabru," emphasizing the variety of activities that fill the streets during the festivities.
Nerea Cantero, the Culture councilor, congratulated the author for her work and creativity, and highlighted the high participation in this year's contest. "It has been one of the years with the most participating posters, reaching 20 proposals, which demonstrates the interest this competition generates and the affection citizens have for experiencing our festivals," she noted.
Finally, Cantero emphasized that the image for the Carmen festival bears the signature of a local creator: "It makes us especially happy that a young woman from Barakaldo represents our festivals, as has not happened for some years".
