The Araba Bizirik platform and various organizations have scheduled a protest at Plaza Bilbao in Vitoria-Gasteiz on May 23 at 6:00 PM. The demonstration aims to halt the development of major infrastructure projects, including wind farms, solar plants, and high-voltage power lines, which they argue threaten the rural landscape.
Organizers claim these projects prioritize the economic interests of large investment funds over the needs of local residents. They warn that such developments risk privatizing natural resources and undermining the viability of the agricultural sector.
The groups have also criticized the Sectoral Territorial Plan for Renewable Energies of the Basque Government, arguing that it facilitates the installation of large energy projects without adequate local consultation. To date, over 7,200 new formal objections have been filed against these initiatives.
The proliferation of large infrastructure does not meet the needs of the population, but rather serves the economic interests of large corporations.
