The 14th edition of the Poetas de Mayo festival will bring poetry to various stages across Álava, primarily in Vitoria-Gasteiz, with more than a hundred events scheduled between May 3rd and 30th.

This poetry festival, known as Poetas de Mayo, will span various locations in the Álava territory, aiming for poetry to become a weapon for the future and a true unifying link. Organizers have highlighted that the activities will take place from May 3rd to 30th.

"We want poetry to be a weapon for the future and a real bond of union."

Among the artists participating in the festival are renowned names such as Ismael Serrano, Antonio Colinas, Luis Pastor, Mikel Urdangarin, and Idoia Asurmendi. Additionally, the event will feature international poets including Maryam Alzarooni and Mohsen Emadi.
Key events include a meeting on May 10th between musician Mikel Urdangarin and poet Leire Vargas at Izaskun Arrue Kulturunea, blending conversation, poetry, and live music. They will explore the creative process, Euskera as a language of expression, and the relationship between words and song.
Antonio Colinas, a major figure in contemporary Spanish poetry, will offer a recital on May 13th at the Parador de Argomaniz. The following day, May 14th, at the Bibat museum, singer-songwriter Luis Pastor will pay tribute to his roots, merging them with the sensibility of Portuguese fado and the influence of Cape Verdean music.
Furthermore, on May 16th, Ismael Serrano will perform a concert at the Jesús Guridi Conservatory. The festival has also organized poetic events in hospitals, nursing homes, and inclusion spaces, as well as collaborations with schools that are preparing recitals.
On May 9th, there will be a mass release of paper doves with verses in Vitoria-Gasteiz's Plaza de España. Events will also take place in other Álava towns such as Amurrio, Agurain, Campezo, Elburgo, and Kuartango.
